Maintenance
Effectiveness Assessment
We believe that
when companies fail to meet their asset management
needs, it is typically due to inadequate systems.
Therefore, we examine those systems as a first
step. We utilize a structured, multi-phased
Maintenance Excellence Implementation Model. The
first step is Maintenance Assessment and
Feedback. We provide an objective and
comprehensive analysis of the maintenance systems
to give an unbiased view of its strengths and
weaknesses. The Maintenance Effectiveness
Assessment takes approximately three and a half
days on-site. It involves an examination of the
maintenance practices, culture, support resource
availability, skill levels, and readiness of the
organization to support and sustain a maintenance
improvement effort. Finally, this Assessment
develops a Business Case to calculate the impact
of implementing improvements.

Steering Council Organization
The move to World
Class requires committed leadership showing the
way. TBR Strategies brings a wide array of
methods, tools, technology and expertise for
solving problems and creating business
opportunities. To make this possible, TBR
Strategies helps guides the formation of a
Steering Council Organization where we charter
your Steering Council and Implementation Team to
lead the efforts. This network focuses support
and direction for organizational improvement. At
this point, we assist your group to set the
vision, mission, goals and key performance metrics
for the process. A short Steering Council
Workshop is conducted where the members become
grounded in TPR and develop their charter. A
Steering Council, made up of senior management,
and is formed to spearhead the process. An
Implementation Team is also formed to drive the
implementation. Obstacles are identified and
means are developed to address them.

Strategy
Development
To achieve the
objectives set by the Steering Council, TBR offers
a unique planning process to formulate an action
plan. At this phase, we help to develop a plan of
action from strategic and tactical implementation
steps. This process actually begins in the
Steering Council Workshop.
Individual steps are listed, resources identified
and dates agreed upon. Pilot equipment and areas
are also selected. We use the Balanced Scorecard
process to help guide the strategy and a Dashboard
to track progress. A process of communicating the
changes is also developed. Part of this step would
also include setting up benchmark visits to study
exemplary performance at other locations.

Process Implementation
Plan execution will
include educational sessions to raise awareness,
training events, Focus Team formation to work on
specific issues and Breakthrough Teams identified
to work on recurring problems. Equipment
Improvement Team Workshops are conducted on
critical equipment to restore it to design limits
and to gain ownership and knowledge of the
equipment. Specific areas of maintenance
practices are targeted based on the gaps
identified from the Maintenance Effectiveness
Assessment and addressed through Focus Teams or
Breakthrough Teams. We mobilize selected
resources from within the organization to begin
using Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) to map existing
processes and design new ones by producing Process
Guides to procedurally processes and systems.

Executive Overviews
TBR Strategies provides a condensed two-hour
awareness session oriented to win establish
support from executives and senior managers who
have limited time for educational sessions. The
Overview helps your leadership understand what TPR
is, how it can help your organizations, the
investment and Return on Investment and what will
be required to support the process. We share
case studies of successful implementations, show
examples of savings and improvements; explain the
overall organization and structure to organize an
equipment improvement process and outline the
requirements to support such an initiative.

Employee Overviews
Four-hour awareness sessions are provided to
educate employees about the TPR process, its
benefits, and expectations. It is meant to build

organization has chosen TPR, benefits to the
individual and organization, what they will be
called upon to do to support the process, and next
steps.

TPR Coordinator/Facilitator Workshops
A rigorous 50-hour course is
provided to the change agents chosen to become
your company’s internal resources. We believe
you should rely on your own resources, as much as
possible, to make this a success. Therefore, it
is our job to transfer as many skills as we can to
those charged with making this a triumph. This
hands-on program provides extensive training in
TPR processes, how do conduct workshops,
instructional methods, change management,
facilitation techniques and problem solving to

Equipment Improvement Team
(EIT) Workshops
Equipment Improvement
Teams (EITs) are hands-on workshops where your
crews of operators and mechanics learn better ways
to operate and service their equipment through
CLAIRE (Cleaning, Lubricating, Adjusting,
Inspecting, Repairing, and Eliminating). It also
covers teaming, construction of standards,
development of PMs (Type One and Type Two),
equipment upkeep, TPR communications, and
restoration to an “as designed” condition.

Preventive Maintenance Development Workshops
This workshop teaches
the fundamentals of good PM development by having
participants conduct research of OEM
recommendations, historical analysis and combined
experiences to develop solid PMs. Through
researching the companies history and equipment
records, exploring their own knowledge and
experiences, participants are able to couple those
with OEM PM suggestions to develop robust PMs for
equipment. Using a structured format, PMs are
developed that can be applied immediately to
selected equipment.

5S Workshops
5S Workshops are
hands-on workshops where participants learn the
value of orderliness and organization by applying
the Japanese concept of 5Ss. 5Ss
stand for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize
and Sustain. It represents the five pillars of
the visual workplace (a way of bringing more order
and organization into the workplace through
a structured approach). It is an excellent
beginning point for all improvement programs
because it helps to create a stable environment
that shows visible change occurring. People who
work in dirty or cluttered environments usually do
not notice the filth and disorganization because
they are so used to it. We help to change this
complacency.
